Taqueria El Camino has 2 current locations in Pennsylvania; thee original restaurant is in Dover, PA. Owner Ethan Greer is a well-traveled chef whose experience and passion for his craft are beautifully translated into modern adaptations of traditional flavors that are seasoned to perfection.
In December of 2020, Chef Ethan Greer expressed interest in a custom chalkboard for the new restaurant that he was opening. I was happy to secure my first large-scale chalkboard menu job. I created a custom board and applied a 3M chalkboard vinyl material to the surface. After some prep and testing, the board was ready!
I used regular sidewalk chalk for the planning and layout stages, and transitioned to wet erase markers for the final lettering. Using wet erase markers allowed for future changes to the menu, which was very important to him in the early months of opening.
I got the opportunity to do this chalkboard twice. The second time, I was feeling extra ambitious and added some realistic images and my own style of hand-lettering. I think my growth, confidence and comprehension in my technique and skill speaks for itself:
Chalkboards weren't the only kinds of menus that we worked on; there was an array of menu designs. The menus for Taqueria El Camino were updated 2-4 times a year the first couple years of operation. Menus were designed for both digital and printed usages.
